My child won't go to class by him(her)self, what can we do?
You are welcome to stay until your child feels comfortable staying alone. Our teachers are very experienced in working with shy children. Hopefully, after a while they'll be having so much fun they won't notice that you are gone. Each child and circumstance is unique, so it may be that your child needs you to stay with them the first couple of weeks until they get comfortable.
How can I feel comfortable that my child is in safe hands?
We consider the safety and well-being of all children to be of the utmost importance. That is why we have instituted sign-in/sign-out procedures for all children up through 2nd grade. We will never let a child go with a stranger. Every child is given a nametag (nametag board pictured at left). The parent or guardian that drops the child off is also given a nametag. The child must be picked up by a person holding that parent's nametag. This policy is for both members and guests. For guests, we'll make a temporary tag for you that day.
Also, we do not put teachers in the classroom until we are confident in their ability to teach and treat children safely. Many new teachers first "apprentice" under one of our more experienced teachers. Most of our teachers have been teaching at WRCC or other churches for many years.
Additionally, we provide pagers to parents of nursery-aged children (read more below).
What happens if my baby needs me??
For those in our Sparkler's (Nursery) program, we provide a pager to each parent so we can easily contact you no matter where you may be in the church building. These pagers are similar to those you might get while waiting for a table at a restaurant. There are different codes we can send to you only if your child is in need. We have found this especially comforting to the parents of young babies because they know they can always be reached if we have a question or concern.
I don't want my child to be away from me during worship and Sunday School, what can I do?
No problem. If you would prefer to keep your child during worship, you are welcome to do so. You are also welcome to stay with your child during Bible class.
